Injecting Knowledge into Innovation
LPPDE – The Science of Improving Innovation
Newport 2020 – Injecting Knowledge into Innovation
Innovation is a concept that individuals and corporations alike seek to discover. What is Innovation and how can we successfully harness its power?
This year’s North American conference, October 5-8, 2020 in Newport, RI, will be dedicated to understanding how knowledge fits into the innovation model. Today we have great new constructs in Agile, Scrum, and the Lean Startup to motivate us, but where can we find the fundamentals? How can we craft a product that meets the customer interests the first time?
A process is only as good as the theory it is based upon. Lean Product Development was defined by studying Toyota, discovering its principles, and applying its philosophy at companies like Goodyear, Scania, Harley Davidson, and Pratt & Whitney. The result was years of practical application data to identify the causal relationships that resulted in defining Lean Product Development.
Newport 2020 will be dedicated to sharing the principles from Lean Product Development to successfully inject knowledge into innovation. I will start the conference on Tuesday by defining innovation and disruption, or being disrupted. Attendees will then have the chance over two days to mix and match presentations and mini-workshops with three areas of focus.
Focus 1 – Innovation in Product Development
Learn the principles and how to incorporate them into your company to speed product development and the generation of knowledge. In today’s competitive environment it is critical to meet the customer interests with a product without painful loopbacks. More than just engineering, all aspects of your company including business development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales will have an opportunity to learn from others and bring current problems to experts for advice and tools.
Focus 2 – Innovation in a Startup Incubator
How can a startup recognize innovation and apply Lean Product Development principles to get to customers with a successful product the first time? Case studies show the causal relationship between early products that nail the job to de done and success. Applying energy on how to identify and eliminate knowledge gaps during the early days of a startup may define your long term growth. Join us to learn how to accelerate you accelerator.
Focus 3 – Innovation in Education
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) has provided an opportunity to teach the principles of lean product development to students. Events like the Solar Car Challenge or MATE ROV Competition provide a powerful opportunity to teach the next generation how to focus their energy at the start of a project on eliminating knowledge gaps by testing first, before putting a kit together. In this focus area you will meet teachers and coaches who have motivated students to success.
For even more in depth learnings there will be Monday and Thursday focused workshops. Join us October 5-8, 2020 in Newport, Rhode Island.
